ICS International
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) is the only internationally recognised professional body in the shore-based Shipping industry. Founded in 1911, the Institute was awarded a Royal Charter in 1920. The Charter was amended in 1984 to open the membership to companies and non-British subjects. As a result, the Institute is now truly international and provides a great deal of opportunity for networking.
In such a global business, shipping often means moving from country to country, however, as a member of ICS boundaries become invisible. With 27 branches, 15 distant learning centres, 120 company members and 4,000 individuals, members are encouraged to participate in the activities of the network globally. Spreading ‘good practice’ throughout the industry is a key ICS objective.
